Get help with ZapDrop file transfers
Frequently Asked Questions
How does ZapDrop work?
ZapDrop creates a temporary secure connection between two devices. When you select files to send, a QR code is generated. The receiver scans the QR code or opens the link, and files transfer directly between devices through our encrypted relay.
Is ZapDrop free?
Yes! ZapDrop is completely free with no hidden costs, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.
Are my files secure?
Yes. All transfers are end-to-end encrypted. Your files pass through our relay server but we cannot read them. Files are never stored on our servers.
What's the maximum file size?
There's no hard limit, but very large files (over 1GB) may take longer and depend on your internet connection. For best results, we recommend files under 500MB.
Do I need an account?
No. ZapDrop requires no registration, login, or personal information.
Can I send to multiple people?
Currently, each transfer is one-to-one. For multiple recipients, you'll need to create separate transfers. We're working on group sharing for a future update.
Why does the QR code expire?
For security, QR codes and sessions expire after 10 minutes of inactivity. This ensures abandoned sessions don't remain open.
The transfer is slow. What can I do?
Transfer speed depends on both devices' internet connections. Try: (1) Use WiFi instead of cellular, (2) Move closer to your router, (3) Close other apps using bandwidth.
Can I use ZapDrop without the app?
Yes! You can send and receive files at zapdrop.ai using any web browser. The app is optional but provides a better experience on mobile.
Does ZapDrop work offline?
No. Both devices need an internet connection since transfers go through our secure relay server.
