💡 Pro Tips

Use the Download Link for Remote Transfers

Can't scan the QR code? Click 'Copy Download Link' and send it via text, email, or any messenger. The recipient can open it in any browser.

Both Devices Need Internet

ZapDrop works over the internet, not Bluetooth or WiFi Direct. Both devices need an active connection, but they don't need to be on the same network.

Keep the Browser Tab Open

Don't close or switch tabs while transferring. The transfer happens in real-time and needs the connection to stay active.

Large Files Work Best on WiFi

For videos or large files, WiFi provides faster and more stable transfers than cellular data.

Files Go to Downloads Folder

On desktop browsers, files automatically save to your Downloads folder. On mobile, you may be prompted where to save.

Session Expires After 30 Minutes

For security, QR codes expire after 30 minutes of inactivity. Just generate a new one if it expires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ZapDrop free?

Yes! ZapDrop is completely free with no hidden costs, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

Do I need to create an account?

No. ZapDrop requires no registration, login, or personal information. Just open the website and start transferring.

Are my files secure?

Yes. All transfers are end-to-end encrypted using industry-standard encryption (TLS + ChaCha20-Poly1305). Your files pass through our relay server but we cannot read them, and files are never stored.

What's the maximum file size?

There's no hard limit, but very large files (over 500MB) may take longer depending on your internet speed. For best results, we recommend files under 500MB per transfer.

Can I send multiple files at once?

Yes! You can select multiple files when sending. They'll all be included in a single transfer session.

What file types are supported?

All file types are supported — documents, photos, videos, music, archives, and more. If your device can read it, ZapDrop can transfer it.

Does it work between different devices?

Yes! ZapDrop works across all platforms: iPhone to Android, Mac to Windows, phone to computer — any combination works.

Why did my transfer fail?

Common causes: (1) One device lost internet connection, (2) Browser tab was closed or switched, (3) Session timed out after 30 minutes. Try again with a stable connection and keep the tab open.

Can I use ZapDrop without the app?

Yes! The website (zapdrop.ai) works in any modern browser. The iOS and Android apps are optional but provide a better mobile experience.

Where do received files go?

On desktop: Your browser's Downloads folder. On mobile: You may be prompted to choose a location, or files go to Downloads.

Is ZapDrop open source?

The client apps and website are open source. Check our GitHub for the code.

How is this different from AirDrop?

AirDrop only works between Apple devices on the same network. ZapDrop works between ANY devices, anywhere in the world, over the internet.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Transfer failed or stuck

  • Check that both devices have internet access
  • Don't switch browser tabs during transfer
  • Refresh both pages and try again
  • Generate a new QR code and reconnect
